Wigs are an investment, so it is important to take good care of yours.
But what is the best hairbrush to use with a wig?
Traditionally, brushes with metal prongs should be your number one choice, as they glide through the hair and stop any tangles hoping to have a party on your head.
Wire brushes usually have little plastic bobbles on the prongs to protect the wig from any accidental and unwanted damage, too.
But this isn't the law and you can buy synthetic brushes that are also perfect for wigs.
Just remember, keep your brush nice and clean and remove any stray hairs that do get dislodged. You may be using it to style a wig, but the rules are the same. Dirty brush equals dirty hair!
And also - if you’ve got a really curly wig, your fingers will do the job better than a brush. Unless you want to look like Professor Rubeus Hagrid from Harry Potter, that is….
So here are my top picks!
This bargain brush is so good, it's tipped as the perfect tool to use when stylists are training to fit hair extensions and wigs. The plastic-handled brush has steel bristles and it is a snip at less than seven quid.
Moroccanoil Ceramic Paddle Brush, £14.65
Slightly more expensive, but this paddle brush will be gentle on tangles and leave your wig looking smooth and silky. It's ceramic and ionic properties make it perfect for (very) gentle heat styling too.
Pricey, but this brush has excellent reviews from wig-wearers and is a good alternative to metal ones. The plastic loops detangled synthetic wigs without pulling out the hair. The large loops also mean the brush doesn't cut through the strands. Worth the investment, I think.
No good for detangling, but this brush is perfect for styling your wig. The pintail is fab for sectioning off hair and the narrow head is just the thing for smoothing fly away strands. All this for a fiver? Marvellous.
Happy shopping, everyone!
